The Miami Dolphins dropped to 0-3 after a 31-21 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Thursday Night Football. Temperatures continue to rise in Miami, as the calls for Mike McDaniel to be fired get louder.
The Dolphins don't have the look of a team that will be competitive this season, and sooner rather than later, they will have a fire sale. With multiple players expected to be shipped out, the Detroit Lions should make a call to Miami to check on the availability of WR Nick Westbrook-Ikhine.
Lions Should Check on Dolphins WR Nick Westbrook-Ikhine
While Tyreek Hill is the biggest name that will be in trade talks over the next couple of weeks, Detroit doesn't need another star WR on the books. They have Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams signed for the next few years, but getting another depth piece in that room could be massive.
Kalif Raymond has the third most snaps at WR for Detroit at 76. Thus far, he has three grabs for 30 yards. Rookie Isaac TeSlaa has logged just 20 snaps but has impressed in his limited outings. Nonetheless, the coaching staff is clearly comfortable giving the rookie a full workload.
Raymond is better suited as the punt returner and WR5 on the team. Asking him to be a serious third receiver is risky, especially if St. Brown or Williams had to miss time due to an injury.
That's where a guy like Westbrook-Ikhine would be a great upgrade. He is fourth among Dolphins WRs in snaps (37) in 2025, recording three catches for 25 yards.
With him not being one of the top three WRs for this team, there could be a way to wiggle him out of Miami. Westbrook-Ikhine has 81 career games (39 starts) in the NFL with the Tennessee Titans and the Dolphins. In those games, he recorded 129 catches for 1,798 receiving yards and 19 touchdowns. Last season with the Titans, he posted career-highs in receiving yards (497) and receiving touchdowns (9). He even averaged 15.5 yards per reception.
The 28-year-old would provide Detroit with a depth receiver who can start if needed. Even in a limited role, Westbrook-Ikhine has shown the ability to produce.
With the Dolphins likely to shake things up in a few weeks, the Lions should be smart to see if they could take Westbrook-Ikhine off their hands to bolster their receiver core for the 2025 campaign.
