After the first week of the Detroit Lions' season, pundits were ready to rule the franchise out as a contender. Offensive coordinator John Morton was under fire for failing to live up to the lofty expectations Ben Johnson had built. However, fast forward two weeks, and Detroit's offense has never looked better. Even the flashy trick plays have returned to a group that has quickly gelled and once again has one of the most enjoyable units to watch in the league.

This led to Morton commenting on the run game, illustrating what a turnaround this has been.

The Athletic's Colton Pouncey reported the comment that was simple but exciting sentiment from Morton when talking about facing the Browns' impressive run defense: "I don't think they've seen a run game like ours yet."

This speaks to a coach who has complete confidence in his playbook and offense moving forward. Considering how incredible the Lions have looked for the last two weeks, this comes as little surprise. Detroit has gone from a team many had left for dead to again among the Super Bowl favorites.

Lions OC John Morton Continues to Give Fans Confidence in Loaded Offense

Morton's comment was a reaction to facing a Cleveland Browns' run defense that ranks first in the league three games into the year, giving up only 57.3 yards per game. It is important to note that this is hardly noteworthy when you're 1-2 on the season and have faced teams with struggling rushing attacks. This is aside from Baltimore, which got whatever they wanted offensively, blowing the Browns off the field in Week 2.

This leads to the fact that Morton's comment is both true and speaks to the swagger and confidence of this offense. Every piece of the game is working with all its stars living up to expectations. With this in mind, the Lions only need the defense to be slightly above league average to have a great shot at winning it all this season.

Jared Goff playing point guard to perfection behind a quickly improving offensive line has helped set up both the run game and open up more big plays in the air attack. Leaving little doubt that Detroit's win streak is going to continue against an inferior Cleveland roster.

The Lions have every reason for confidence in a team that continues to have a special energy and intensity that no other franchise can quite match over the last two seasons. Leaving no question that Morton's comment is accurate and should excite fans who now have lofty expectations for the season ahead.
