The Detroit Lions had a dream season in 2024 and a big reason was the performance of their receivers. Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams had big years as part of the highest scoring offense in the NFL and the Lions rode their high-octane offense to a 15-2 record and the No. 1 seed in the NFC.

Williams and St. Brown will be back and be part of the Lions’ core to help them remain competitive for years to come. But while the Lions had a dynamic duo, some of the other receivers were left out in the cold and it has one of their playmakers considering retirement after a tough year.

Lions Receiver Allen Robinson Considering Retirement After Tough Season

According to Dave Birkett of The Detroit Free Press, Lions receiver Allen Robinson is contemplating retirement after the 2024 season. The 31-year-old signed with the Lions practice squad last August and was elevated to the active roster in September but never carved out a viable role, leading him to ponder his future plans.

“For me, it’s now just taking time to evaluate what next year looks like for me in general,” Robinson said. “That’s kind of where I’m at with it. So I’m taking some time to make this decision with my family.”

A Detroit native, Robinson was a second-round pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2014 NFL Draft. The Penn State product had a hot start to his career, including catching 80 passes for 1,400 yards and 14 touchdowns during his second season in 2015, but Robinson never made the Pro Bowl again and signed with the Chicago Bears before the 2018 season.

Robinson spent four years with the Bears before spending time with the Los Angeles Rams and Pittsburgh Steelers before joining the Lions last year, catching three passes for 30 yards on seven targets. While Robinson called playing for his hometown team “an incredible experience,” he also laid out a plan for his post-playing career including attending the NFL’s broadcasting and media workshop last offseason.

After helping SiriusXM NFL radio with their NFL Scouting Combine coverage each of the past two years, Robinson is considering taking the step to making it a full-time job and building his own media company.

“For me it’s more so about figuring out what my future is in this game and in this league looks like,” Robinson said. “Playing, finishing Season 11, having a family, figuring out different things with them, moving around and stuff like that. So for me it’s now just taking time to evaluate what next year looks like for me in general. That’s kind of where I’m at with it. So I’m taking some time to make this decision with my family.”

Robinson will become an unrestricted free agent when the 2025 league year opens on March 12, but it doesn’t appear that his future will be in Detroit or possibly anywhere else next season.
