The Detroit Lions are in a good position heading into next week’s NFL Draft. The Lions don’t have a glaring need and there are several ways they can go when they are on the clock for the 28th overall pick. But that hasn’t stopped speculation on what they could do with their seven picks when they travel to Green Bay.

With the days counting down, the Lions wrapped up their top 30 visit on Thursday. Their final visit landed right into Dan Campbell’s wheelhouse as he looks to upgrade another underrated aspect of Detroit’s roster.

Lions Host Georgia Tight End Ben Yurosek in Final NFL Draft Visit

NFL Network’s Tom Pellissero reports that the Lions are hosting Georgia tight end Ben Yurosek as their final top 30 visit for the 2025 draft. Yurosek caught 123 passes for 1,527 yards and five touchdowns during his five-year collegiate career with Stanford and Georgia and could fill Detroit’s need for depth at tight end.

Sam LaPorta is comfortably at the top of the Lions depth chart after catching 60 passes for 726 yards and seven touchdowns last season. Brock Wright caught 13 passes for 100 yards and a pair of touchdowns behind LaPorta last season but his 52.0 overall grade ranked 66th out of 74 qualifiers according to Pro Football Focus this season, hinting at the Lions need for an upgrade.

Detroit has already made strides to add competition heading into next year, bringing back Shane Zylstra and adding Kenny Yeboah in free agency. Yurosek would fit into this competition after posting an overall grade of 60.6 and a run-blocking grade of 64.4 at Georgia and could make things interesting as the Lions sort out their depth during training camp.

It’s a fitting final visit considering Campbell’s history as a tight end. After playing a reserve role with the Lions, Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants for 10 years, he knows what he’s looking for behind LaPorta and could lead him to a perfect fit with Yurosek late in this year’s draft.
