The Detroit Lions will have a new look on offense when the team takes the field for its second preseason game of the 2025 campaign against the Atlanta Falcons.

After struggling to get anything going in their 34-7 Hall of Fame Game loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, Dan Campbell has decided to make a change under center in hopes of providing Detroit's offense with a spark.

Lions QB Kyle Allen Gets Demoted After Terrible 1st Preseason Game

Veteran Kyle Allen has been demoted in favor of Hendon Hooker as Detroit's starter in the second preseason game. What this means long-term for Allen is uncertain, but we know now that he will be holding a clipboard once things get rolling in Atlanta on Friday night.

It's hard to sugarcoat just how bad Allen was in the Hall of Fame Game. Any player looking to go out and win a job needs to do better than a 64.3% completion percentage when it comes with two interceptions and just 91 yards passing. These are the numbers Allen produced against a slew of reserve Chargers defenders, and he has to own them now.

Detroit is Allen's fifth team in as many years. It isn't like he is a quarterback who settled in with a franchise and then sought opportunities elsewhere. This is the definition of a journeyman at the quarterback position.

There is still time for Allen to turn this around. It remains unlikely that Goff will see any major playing time during the preseason, so Hooker and Allen will be battling it out for the next few weeks before rosters have to be cut down to 53 players.

If Allen wants to find a home with the Lions, though, he would be best served to figure out how to make a positive impact on the offense sooner rather than later.
