The Detroit Lions and several teams around the league just wrapped up rookie minicamp over the weekend. For the Lions, it was the first chance for head coach Dan Campbell to get a quick look at this year’s incoming draft class, undrafted free agents, and invite/tryout players

While all the attention is on the Lions’ draft picks, UDFAs, and tryout players had an opportunity to show and prove why they deserve to stay or join the 90-man roster. Nonetheless, one rookie the Lions signed in the UDFA period will not be joining them for the next offseason phase.

According to NFL reporter Aaron Wilson of KPRC-2, the Lions waived rookie tight end Caden Prieskorn.

Detroit signed Prieskorn as an undrafted free agent following the 2025 NFL Draft. He was one of 10 undrafted free agents the club signed after the draft. Prieskorn wasn't a household name coming into the NFL draft, but showcased skills in college to make him a potential in-line tight end at the next level.

Prieskorn had an uphill climb to make the practice squad, let alone the 53-man roster. The Lions have a loaded tight end room that features Sam LaPorta, Brock Wright, Shane Zylstra, Kenny Yeboah, and Zach Horton.

Horton is also an undrafted free agent who offers some positional versatility as a tight end and fullback, which makes him more intriguing to keep on Prieskorn. The 6-foot-5 Prieskorn began his collegiate career at Memphis before transferring to Ole Miss.

The Lake Orion, Michigan, native spent three years at the University of Memphis, where he had 55 receptions for 681 yards and seven touchdowns. Then at Ole Miss, Prieskorn recorded 57 catches for 680 yards and seven scores over his last two years of college football.

Last season, Prieskorn racked up 27 receptions for 401 yards and three touchdowns in 13 games. Even though he was released after rookie minicamp, Prieskorn’s football journey isn’t over yet.

The rookie tight end still has time to join another roster ahead of training camp, as many teams around the league will continue to make adjustments to their 90-man roster.
