The Detroit Lions decided to skip minicamp since they will be reporting earlier to training camp due to playing in the 2025 Hall of Fame game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Players have a couple of weeks off before reporting back to the facility next month. With the focus on the 2025 season, Detroit could be extending one of its star players.

Lions reporter Jeff Risdon was answering questions on the Detroit Lions Podcast mailbag, and he was asked which player between Jameson Williams, Jake Bates, or Brock Wright will land an extension first.

He responded, "Jamo is getting done sooner rather than later. Very, very, extraordinarily confident on that."

Jameson Williams Could Land Extension Next

The Lions picked up Williams' fifth-year option this offseason and wanted him on the books for at least 2026. After two injury-plagued seasons to start his career, Williams took off last year.

In 2024, he posted career-highs in targets (91), receptions (58), receiving yards (1,001), and touchdowns (7). He also averaged 17.3 yards per reception, putting on full display his ability to stretch the field with his game-breaking speed.

Williams plays a big role in this offense, and Detroit feels like he will be a part of their future. They already gave Amon-Ra St. Brown a four-year, $120 million extension, yet what Williams can do is so dynamic.

The wide receiver market continues to go up, as eight receivers are making $30-plus million per year, including St. Brown.

It'll be interesting to see how much Williams can get from the Lions, but they would be smart to keep him around. Keeping your 24-year-old WR in town for the long haul while you fight for a Super Bowl is a wise decision.

We'll have to see if both sides can agree before the 2025 season, but Risdon seems confident it'll happen.
