The Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers will not square off until Week 1 of the 2025 NFL regular season, but the war of words between NFC North rivals never truly ends. Fortunately for Lions fans, Packers quarterback Jordan Love's performance on Monday provided the Motor City with more than enough jokes to last them until the fall.
Love was invited to Milwaukee to throw out the ceremonial first pitch ahead of the Milwaukee Brewers' matchup against the Boston Red Sox, and, to put it bluntly, it went about as badly for the quarterback as it could have gone. The fact that this game was tabbed as one of the Games of the Day on MLB Network made the embarrassment greater.
As you can see from the video below, Love didn't bounce it into home plate, but he certainly did not come anywhere near the strike zone. It seems safe to say that Packers fans in attendance at American Family Field did not have good feelings about the ball delivered by the team's signal caller.
We have seen countless celebrities have regrettable performances when put in the same spot Love was in on Monday. The difference between him and, for example, Stephen A. Smith is that Love is a man who is paid millions of dollars to throw a ball for a living, albeit a different-sized one, and he missed his target this badly.
Heading to the ballpark to take in a game is as enjoyable a way to spend the Memorial Day holiday as there is. It seems safe to say that Love will not have those feelings when he sees the response his attempt at the first pitch received across the sports world.
While this will live to be an unwanted memory for Love and Green Bay fans, it will provide fans in Detroit with all the laughs they need to make it through the summer months before we fully return to football season.
