The Detroit Lions have seen a ton of turnover over the last couple of months, but they still have the foundation of players they've built. The Lions have a couple of players who are eligible for extensions this offseason, hoping to cash in.
Safety Kerby Joseph is one of the top defenders in the secondary and he spoke about the potential of a new deal after throwing out the first pitch at Comerica Park on Tuesday.
Joseph said, "It's in progress, we're getting things going. I love Detroit, Detroit loves me."

Kerby Joseph Talks About a Potential Extension
Joseph has spent the past three years with Detroit after coming into the league as a third-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. He is heading into the final year of his deal and is looking to cash in after an All-Pro campaign.
In 2024, Joseph posted 83 total tackles, 12 pass deflections, and a league-high nine interceptions. According to PFF, Joseph had a 91 overall grade (1st among 171 graded safeties), 91.9 coverage grade (1st among 171 graded safeties), and an 83.2 run-defense grade (13th among 171 graded safeties).
The Illinois product has developed into a true ball hawk over the top with a nose for finding the football. The fact that the Lions are already having those discussions around an extension showcases they know the value he brings to the team.
Antoine Winfield Jr. is the highest-paid safety in the league, making $21 million a year. Derwin James comes in second ($19 million), and Minkah Fitzpatrick ($18.2 million) is in the third spot.
It wouldn't be a surprise if Joseph wanted to come in around these numbers on his new deal. He has played in at least 15 games in all three seasons and continues to improve his play.
He wants to stay in Detroit, and it sounds like the feeling is mutual. This is something to keep an eye on going into the 2025 campaign.
