Lions Stud Reveals Gruesome Injury He's Playing Through in Playoffs
By Jovan Alford
As the Detroit Lions prepare for their Week 18 showdown for the NFC North crown and the No. 1 seed against the Minnesota Vikings, they welcomed back a familiar face on defense with the return of veteran linebacker Alex Anzalone.
On Friday, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported he wouldn't be surprised to see the veteran linebacker take the field against the Vikings. The 30-year-old Anzalone was a limited participant on Wednesday, but a full participant over the last two days of practice.
Detroit listed the veteran linebacker on Friday as questionable on the final Week 18 injury report and was activated off injured reserve on Saturday.
The 30-year-old linebacker has missed Detroit’s last six games with a broken forearm that he suffered in Week 11 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Lions placed the veteran linebacker on injured reserve, but are happy to get him back for the playoff push.
The veteran linebacker is excited to be back on the field and posted a gruesome photo of his arm on Instagram. The social media photo shows Anzalone’s arm stitched up with the caption, “Everyone wants to be a dog, until you have to do some dog s***.”
With all the injuries the Lions have faced this season, they are lucky to get Anzalone back, who looks to be in playoff mode.
Without Anzalone on the field, second-year linebacker Jack Campbell has held things down despite the changing players around him. This season, Campbell has had 125 total tackles, five tackles for loss, five pass deflections, four quarterback hits, and a forced fumble.
According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, Anzalone practiced with a carbon-fiber cast and will play with a protective device.
Before getting injured in Week 11, the veteran linebacker recorded 56 combined tackles, seven tackles for loss, four quarterback hits, and four pass deflections. The Lions should not expect Anzalone to be at 100% for tonight’s game or the playoffs, but his presence alone in the linebacker unit should give them a lift.
