Lions Veteran Given Offseason Honor After Teammate's Injury
The Detroit Lions had their season end prematurely than they hoped it would. After going 15-2 and landing the No. 1 seed in the NFC, they were sent home in the Divisional Round by the Washington Commanders.
Super Bowl LIX is set between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles. The other 30 teams in the league are focused on the offseason but still have the 2025 Pro Bowl Games on the schedule.
According to the Detroit Lions official X page, it has been announced that OT Taylor Decker has been named to the 2025 Pro Bowl Games, replacing his teammate Penei Sewell.
Lions News: Taylor Decker Named to 2025 Pro Bowl Games
Sewell led all NFC tackles in fan voting and was selected for his third Pro Bowl. It's still unclear when Sewell suffered an injury, as he played in every snap against the Commanders. He also wasn't put on the team's injury report.
Regardless, Decker will be making his first-ever Pro Bowl appearance. He was nabbed with the 16th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft and has been a consistent force up front for the Lions. He's currently the longest-tenured Lions player on the roster.
Over 14 games (894 offensive snaps), Decker finished with a 77 overall grade (22nd among 141 eligible tackles) and 72 run-blocking grade (30th among 141 eligible tackles) per PFF. He only committed four penalties and gave up eight sacks.
At 30 years old, the Ohio State product will be making his first appearance in the Pro Bowl. Those honors and accolades are major and need to be appreciated. The Lions originally had seven players on the roster and 11 others were named alternates.
Even though Sewell won't suit up for the Pro Bowl, he was one of the best tackles in the league. He finished the season with an 87.5 overall PFF grade (5th among 141 eligible tackles) and a 90.5 run-blocking PFF grade (2nd among 141 eligible tackles). Sewell was also a first-team All-Pro selection.
While he won't be on the field, Decker takes his spot and will be down in Orlando for the festivities.
