The Detroit Lions didn't have the best holiday weekend, to say the least. On Thanksgiving Day, falling 31-24 to the Green Bay Packers wasn't ideal, considering it was a divisional tilt. Detroit was swept by the Packers in 2025, and things continued to spiral for them.
The Dallas Cowboys defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 31-28 to improve to 6-5-1 on the campaign. And things didn't stop there either, as the Chicago Bears took down the Philadelphia Eagles 25-14, improving to 9-3.
There are only four weeks left in the regular season, so there isn't much time left, but the Lions' week has only gone downhill since the final whistle sounded at Ford Field on Thursday afternoon.
Lions Were One of Biggest Losers in Week 13
It doesn't help that Amon-Ra St. Brown suffered an ankle sprain and is considered week-to-week moving forward. Thankfully, he didn't suffer a significant injury, but St. Brown potentially missing Week 14 versus the Cowboys is huge.
The NFC is a slugfest; 10 teams are fighting for the seven playoff spots. With the division looking out of reach unless the Bears or Packers completely collapse, Detroit's path to the playoffs will come as a wild-card team. Yet they are currently in the eighth spot, trailing the 49ers, Packers, and Seahawks.
It doesn't make things any better that the Lions and Cowboys square off in Week 14 on Thursday Night Football. Detroit has lost two of its last three games, in which the offense has left plenty to be desired. Meanwhile, the Cowboys are playing some great football, winners of three straight. The addition of Quinnen Williams has drastically changed their defense, giving Dallas another layer for opposing teams to contend with.
The Lions experienced a lot of turnover on the coaching staff this offseason, while dealing with several injuries on the defensive side. Every NFL season is different, of course, and this one has been a rollercoaster.
Things can change every week, but this is not the outcome the Lions want. Dropping your game but seeing several other teams you're fighting against win theirs is a tough pill to swallow. The margin for error in Detroit continues to shrink.
How they respond for the remainder of the season will be something to watch for. Even though we haven't seen the full slate of games played this week, the Lions have to be upset with how things have unfolded thus far.
