The Detroit Lions are still being plagued by the injury bug heading into the 2025 season. Detroit has already lost key players such as Levi Onwuzurike, Josh Pascal and Ennis Rakestraw to significant injuries. Then, on Sunday, the Lions announced that three more players were headed to injured reserve.

Unfortunately, the injury news keeps piling up as head coach Dan Campbell announced another injury on Monday morning. According to Nolan Bianchi of the Detroit News, Campbell said backup center Trystan Colon will be out a while. Though he didn't announce what Colon's injury was, having another injury on the offensive line is not good.

Lions Backup Center Trystan Colon Sidelined with Injury

Last month, the Lions announced that rookie Miles Frazier would be missing significant time with a knee injury. While Fraizer and Colon play different positions, losing two backup offensive linemen isn't great. Over the past two seasons, Detroit has had one of the best offensive lines in the league.

Even though a lot of the success came from the starters, the Lions had good depth. Sadly, the Lions lost some key starters and important backups on the offensive line this offseason. While they did draft and make signings to fill the holes. Injuries are recreating them.

Despite being the third-string center, Colon's injury is fairly significant. The former undrafted free agent out of Missouri has started three games at center in his career, all with the Baltimore Ravens. In 2020, as a rookie, he started two games, recording a 70.0 pass blocking grade, a 72.5 run blocking grade, and a 67.6 overall grade, according to PFF.

Both games he saw action in as a rookie came against AFC North opponents, so that level of play is impressive. Then, in 2021, he recorded a 69.2 pass blocking grade, a 71.9 run blocking grade, and a 72.5 overall grade in his one start at center.

Besides that experience at center, Colon has mostly played guard. Even so, being able to hold up on the Ravens' offensive line always does good things for players' careers. Therefore, Colon's injury definitely hurts the Lions' depth on the offensive line.

Hopefully, the veteran is able to return before the final preseason game and prove why he deserves to make the Lions initial 53-man roster.
