The Detroit Lions didn’t make many moves this offseason, but there will still be some new faces for the 2025 season. Cornerback DJ Reed was the headliner for the Lions in free agency, but the team will also be hoping for some contributions from a draft class that includes first-round defensive tackle Tyleik Williams.

Joining a team that went to the NFC Championship Game two years ago and posted a 15-2 record last year requires some acclimation process. But it also involves getting familiar with new surroundings entering a new city. One Lions addition has already taken time to get to know his new town and is soaking up what Detroit has to offer.

New Lions DT Roy Lopez Takes in Tigers Game at Comerica Park

New Lions defensive tackle Roy Lopez took the streets as he awaits the start of OTA workouts this week and headed down to Comerica Park to check out the Detroit Tigers. The trip prompted Lopez to take a picture of his new surroundings and it would make most Lions fans want to grab a beer and a bratwurst.

Lopez is hoping that his trip to Detroit is more than just a summer field trip. The 27-year-old vet joined the Lions this offseason after spending the first four years of his NFL career with the Houston Texans (2021-22) and Arizona Cardinals (2023-24). He also revealed that part of his reasoning was to learn from Dan Campbell for a potential coaching career when he’s done playing, but he needs to stay on the team to make the most of that opportunity.

That could be a difficult proposition for Lopez, considering the depth on the Lions' roster. Alim McNeill’s availability for the start of the season is in question after tearing his ACL last December and DJ Reader, Williams and Levi Onwuzurike should be locked until McNeill is ready to return to the field. It could leave Lopez batting with 2024 sixth-round pick Mekhi Wingo for the final roster spot, but the veteran has already gained positive reviews after making 28 total tackles, including four for a loss and a sack in his final year with the Cardinals.

If Lopez can make the roster, there could be a few more trips to Comerica Park in his future and possibly a few Tigers players crossing the street to see Lopez play at Ford Field.
