The Detroit Lions had a pretty uneventful 2025 free agency. The team's biggest acquisition was signing cornerback D.J. Reed to a three-year $40 million contract to replace Carlton Davis. Other than bringing Reed, Detroit signed/re-signed depth pieces.

That said, it seems that Reed is exceedingly popular among NFL fans. Last Friday, the 28-year-old shared a post on X {formerly known as Twitter) that he will be hosting a football camp on May 3rd in California. On Monday morning, Reed shared an update on X that the camp had sold out. Having a camp sell out in two days is impressive, even for a player of Reed's caliber.

D.J. Reed's Football Camp Sells Out in Two Days

The former Kansas State cornerback was selected in the fifth round of the 2018 draft by the San Francisco 49ers. Reed was on the 49ers for two seasons before being cut at the start of training camp in 2020. Following his departure from San Francisco, Reed played two seasons with the Seattle Seahawks, cementing himself as a starting-caliber cornerback.

As a result, Reed signed a three-year $33 million contract with the New York Jets on March 17, 2022. In New York, Reed recorded 202 tackles, 32 pass deflections, two forced fumbles, and two interceptions. Furthermore, in two out of three seasons, he finished with a pass coverage grade of 75 or higher, according to PFF. In 2022, Reed's coverage grade was 16th-best (77.5), and in 2023, his coverage grade was 24th-best (79.5).

Some of Reed's success with the Jets can be attributed to him being on the opposite side of Sauce Gardner. However, if the 28-year-old wasn't a star in his own right, he would have been exposed in New York, given teams don't like testing Gardner.

Even if it's not exclusively Lions fans supporting Reed's football camp, it shows that he's beloved by local communities he's been part of and that the public is rooting for not only his success on the field but off it as well.
