The Detroit Lions have turned their focus onto the 2025 offseason. After getting sent home in the Divisional Round by the Washington Commanders, there have been a ton of moving parts in Detroit.
Ben Johnson became the new head coach of the Chicago Bears. He showed a ton of love to Dan Campbell in his first presser with Chicago. The Lions also lost defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn to the New York Jets, who agreed to become their head coach on Wednesday.
Even though the Conference Championship Games are taking place on Sunday, it has been revealed that quarterback Jared Goff has been named an MVP finalist by the Associated Press.
Lions News: Jared Goff is Named an MVP Finalist
Goff is on the list with Buffalo's Josh Allen, Philadelphia's Saquon Barkley, Cincinnati's Joe Burrow, and Baltimore's Lamar Jackson.
This past season, Goff was one of the top signal callers in the league. The Cal product was second in the league in passing yards (4,629), fourth in passing touchdowns (37), and sixth in QBR (68.4). During the campaign, he's tossed multiple passing touchdowns in 12 games.
In addition, during the regular season, the Lions were second in total offense (409.5) and passing offense (263.2). They also led the NFL in scoring offense (33.2).
Although he likely won't win the award due to the stellar seasons of the other studs on the list, Goff played great football for the Lions in 2024.
Goff consistently kept the offense on track and put the ball into the hands of his playmakers. The combination of him and Johnson put the Lions in a great position to succeed.
Following the loss to the Commanders, where Goff had four turnovers (three picks and a fumble), Lions fans aren't too thrilled with the 2016 No. 1 overall pick. Regardless, that one outing didn't take away from the stout season that he had. And Goff's being recognized for his performance.
