The Detroit Lions clinched the No.1 seed in the NFC on Sunday by defeating the Minnesota Vikings 31-9. As a result, the team earned much-needed rest after playing 13 straight games. The bye week will not only help players who have just returned from injury get even healthier, but it will also help players who have played all season be fresh for the playoffs.

One player who has yet to miss a snap (knock on wood) this season is running back Jahmyr Gibbs. Gibbs has been excellent both through the air and on the ground all season. That said, in recent weeks, he has seen an increased role due to the injury that David Montgomery sustained. Thankfully, Gibbs's increased role has not seemed to slow his production down.

Instead, it's only continued to show that the Lions made the right move when they selected him with the 12th pick in the 2023 draft. On Sunday, against the Vikings, Gibbs recorded 28 touches (23 carries and five catches) for 170 yards (139 rushing and 31 receiving) and four total touchdowns (three rushing and one receiving). This was enough to earn him NFC Player of the Week.

Lions News: Jahmyr Gibbs Earns NFC Player of the Week

Gibbs's performance on Sunday was well deserving of being named NFC Offensive Player of the Week. While Jared Goff played decently, Gibbs carried the Lions to a victory over the Vikings, which earned them their first-ever No.1 seed in franchise history.

Asking Gibbs to continue performing to that level in the playoffs is a tall task. Nevertheless, the Lions will need the Alabama product to continue to have big performances, given the uncertainty around Montgomery.

When Montgomery first got injured it was reported he would be placed on injured reserve. However, he got a second and third opinion from doctors, and they told him he might be able to return in the playoffs.

Despite that, there still is a chance Montgomery won't make it back for the playoff run leaving Gibbs as the solo back. While Gibbs clearly showed he was capable of that against the Vikings, most Lions fans and the team would prefer if Gibbs wasn't the lone back.

No matter how the running back room looks in the playoffs though, Gibbs earning NFC Offensive Player of the Week is quite the accolade.
