Perfect RB for Lions' Super Bowl Push Just Became Available in Week 18
The Detroit Lions have been one of the top teams in the NFL this season. Despite having 21 players on IR, this team finds a way to get a win on gameday.
The Lions are 14-2 on the season and have a pivotal contest against the Minnesota Vikings happening in Week 18. On Sunday Night Football, Detroit will host their division foe, with the winner clinching the No. 1 seed in the playoffs and a first-round bye.
Detroit's offense is explosive but they took a massive hit when running back David Montgomery went down with a torn MCL. Although he hasn't been placed on IR, his status for the remainder of the season is in serious doubt.
They are relying on Jahmyr Gibbs to carry the workload now but they were gifted the perfect RB right before the playoffs.
NFL News: Cowboys Released Ezekiel Elliott on New Year’s Eve
According to FOX Sports Jordan Schultz, the Cowboys released RB Ezekiel Elliott. He decided to head back to Dallas in 2024 after spending the previous season with the New England Patriots.
The reunion just didn't work out. Elliott played in just 258 snaps, logging 226 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Granted, the Ohio State product isn't the same player he used to be but he still could be a valuable addition for the postseason.
In 2023 with the Patriots, Elliott had 642 rushing yards, 313 receiving yards, and five total touchdowns.
With less wear and tear on his body this season, he could give the Lions a physical and bruising tailback behind Gibbs. The Alabama product is the de facto RB1 and will still lead the way. Over the last two games, he has compiled 226 rushing yards, 91 receiving yards, and two rushing touchdowns. He's shown that he can carry the burden of being the go-to guy but there will be times that he will need a rest.
Elliott is a more physical runner and could play a nice role for the Lions. They have Craig Reynolds and Sione Vaki on the team but adding the 29-year-old would give them a player with a higher floor. The Lions would be wise to kick the tires on adding the three-time Pro Bowler.
