The Detroit Pistons do not own a first-round pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, so their offseason will officially kick off on Thursday night, barring a trade to move up into the top 30 picks.
While there will be plenty of eyes locked in on what Detroit elects to do with the No. 37 overall pick, free agency is when fans will learn the most about what the Pistons will look like moving forward and how Trajan Langdon plans to build out this roster around the core pieces already in place.
One of the first matters of business that Langdon and the front office will have to address is what to do with their free agents, as some key contributors to last season's success may test free agency this July. The market will work itself out, as it always does, but one veteran could be looking at a hefty pay increase should he remain in Detroit.
Malik Beasley Reportedly Set to Get Massive Pay Raise to Stay in Detroit
Malik Beasley was one of the most important players on the Pistons' roster this past season as his play off the bench took Detroit's offensive attack to the next level and gained him plenty of notoriety around the league, as he finished as the runner-up for the NBA's Sixth Man of the Year award.
According to Omari Sankofa II of the Detroit Free Press, Beasley will likely receive interest throughout the league after averaging 16.3 points per game while shooting 41.6% from beyond the arc on 9.3 attempts per game. His 319 made 3-pointers made him just the fifth player in league history to knock down at least 300 shots from beyond the arc in a single season. That interest will lead to a bump in pay from the $6 million he earned this past season with the Pistons.
Should Detroit be determined to keep Beasley in the fold, they can offer him up to $60.6 million over four years this summer. Given the connections Beasley has to the city and the success he has already enjoyed playing under J.B. Bickerstaff and alongside Cade Cunningham, there are plenty of reasons to think the sharpshooting guard would be more than open to running things back in Detroit.
Of the veterans from last season's roster who are eligible for free agency this summer, Beasley makes the most sense to be the one to return for several reasons. As already noted, he is one of the premier 3-point shooters in the game today, and any franchise would want that sort of weapon on its roster. Beyond just his skill set, Beasley fits into the timeline this core has moving forward as he will be 28 years old when the 2025-26 season tips off.
