Shooting from the perimeter will be something the Detroit Pistons address this summer, as it is something that teams cannot have enough of in today's NBA.
Rumors linking the Pistons to players like Myles Turner and Naz Reid have come forward largely due to the abilities those two have to stretch the floor. However, finding knock-down shooters from beyond the arc is an area where you cannot have enough options on the roster, which means Detroit should pursue guards who possess the same skill set.
This brings us to the Boston Celtics. The Celtics are in a terrible position regarding the league's salary cap. Their front office will have no choice but to move one of the core members of their rotation this summer, and the Pistons should do all they can to take advantage of that.
Pistons Land Derrick White in Mock Blockbuster Deal With Celtics
Bringing Derrick White to the Motor City to pair him with Cade Cunningham in Detroit's backcourt would be a massive coup for Trajan Langdon and the Pistons' front office. There won't be many occasions where a franchise as successful as the Celtics is forced to be a seller of key players. White is one of the names that continues to come up in trade rumors as we approach July, and his fit in Detroit makes perfect sense.
In this scenario, the Pistons would lose Isaiah Stewart and Simone Fontecchio, as well as future draft capital. None of the assets or players being shipped out of town in this deal are cornerstones of the future. Duren has already surpassed Stewart on the depth chart, and if we're being honest, Fontecchio has not lived up to his contract.
The draft picks, assuming Detroit continues on this trajectory, should be selections in the back end of the first round, which makes them easier to ship out in a trade like this that would have an immediate impact on winning in the here and now.
It takes two to tango, and there will be plenty of offers that come Boston's way over the coming weeks. They have a big man problem, though, and Stewart could be an intriguing enough centerpiece of a deal to make Brad Stevens and company interested in a move with Detroit.
