It is the NFL Scouting Combine, and the fans get a glimpse of what each team prioritizes during the draft process and what each prospect is like on and off the field.

Just like the rest of the league, the Detroit Lions are holding interviews with draft prospects they are interested in. One of the prospects they have talked to revealed a fascinating question head coach Dan Campbell asked him. His answer may be the perfect answer to a Dan Campbell question.

William & Mary offensive lineman Charles Grant was apparently asked by Campbell what "grit" meant to him and whether he has an example of it from his life. The Philadelphia Inquirer's Devin Jackson shared his answer.

Grant said that even though he gave Campbell an answer during the interview, he has another story he would like to share. He then went on to talk about his high school wrestling career. He discussed how he lost to a wrestler in the first round during his sophomore year. The next year, he came back and wrestled the same wrestler four times, getting closer to beating him each time but coming up short the first three times. Then, eventually, he met him at the regional championship and defeated him for the first time.

Campbell is known to be a player's coach and a leader of men. This is the exact type of story Campbell values in his players. More than their impact on the field, Campbell loves it when his players show grit and determination. Whether Grant did enough to win over the Lions' head coach remains to be seen.

The Detroit Lions have seven picks in the 2025 NFL Draft, including a pick in each of the first four rounds. In most mock drafts, Charles Grant is projected as a third or fourth-round pick. If the Lions address their bigger concerns in the earlier rounds of the draft, they could target a talented offensive lineman with upside like Grant with their fourth-round selection.
