The Lions vs. Saints game will kick off a Super Bowl quest for Detroit as Dan Campbell and Co. feel like they have the pieces to make it back to the playoffs after a disappointing 2025 season.
Detroit is projected to bounce back this season, as several experts have the Lions taking the division back from the Chicago Bears. Having a veteran quarterback, one of the best running backs, a couple of 1,000-yard receivers, and a defense with some stars will force those types of projections.
Campbell being one of the best coaches in the NFL helps, too.
The Saints aren’t expected to be contenders by any means, but they’re also going to be much better at the quarterback position, with Tyler Shough gaining another year of experience after passing for over 2,300 yards and 10 touchdowns as a rookie. Travis Etienne also comes over from the Jaguars to replace Alvin Kamara in the backfield, so this team is fresh, young, and hungry.
The Lions’ trio of Jared Goff, Jahmyr Gibbs, and Amon-Ra St. Brown is going to be tough to beat, though.
Predicting the Lions vs. Saints final score
The Lions are going to put up some points on Sunday against the Saints, as the offense will be too much for New Orleans to handle.
Goff is going to have his typical 250-yard game through the air with three touchdowns to each of his top targets: St. Brown, Jameson Williams, and Sam LaPorta. Gibbs is going to be a force in both the pass and the run games with over 150 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown of his own.
The game will be close for a half, but Campbell and the Lions will turn the pressure up in the second half and run away with it. Expect a couple of hiccups and missed assignments from the defense, however, as the pieced-together secondary tries to hold things together until guys like Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch return from injury.
Detroit’s offensive stars against the Saints as they pick up a big win and cover the spread, leading fans to believe in a Super Bowl run once again to begin the season.
