Former Detroit Lions quarterback Teddy Bridgewater finds himself in hot water not long after leaving the league again to continue to pursue a coaching career. The veteran quarterback is well-respected around the league after putting together a solid career as a reliable backup option. Bridgewater even came out of retirement to fill this role for the Lions, adding a bit more experience to the quarterback room. Jared Goff has been incredibly reliable, but having the added security of Bridgewater was a much-needed boost for the position group.
However, the veteran didn't stick around long, returning to coaching after spending a handful of games in Detroit.
Miami Northwestern has suspended Bridgewater from coaching as they investigate the veteran quarterback for impermissible benefits. The quarterback posted a fiery Facebook response to this offering that he would coach his players from the bleachers if needed, that he wasn't going anywhere. While the rules would allow the accomplished player to coach another team, Bridgewater wanted to make it clear he wasn't leaving his team.

Former Lions QB Teddy Bridgewater Suspended
It will be interesting to see how this plays out, and if a serious suspension is dealt out, it might spark another NFL comeback. Bridgewater is still a capable backup and could easily land back in Detroit or with another franchise if this is the case. The veteran quarterback made the choice to leave the league in an effort to begin to establish his career.
While the situation is less than ideal, it isn't as if Bridgewater is being accused of serious violations. High schools have long skirted the rules as best they can to bring in better talent and make life easier for their players. It is a piece of the game that is attempted to be policed, but impossible to catch every violation and keep schools and coaches in check.
If Bridgewater continues to face heat, it will be fascinating to see how the school allows it to play out. The quarterback isn't going to have an issue finding another coaching job or landing back as a depth quarterback in the league. However, Bridgewater has made it clear this isn't where his focus is, remaining committed to his players and team. Whatever road the suspension takes, the quarterback has zero intention of giving up on where his coaching career began.
