The Detroit Tigers' impressive run has continued with a handful of players continuing to find ways to defy expectations. This feels to be the underdog group of the American League despite the fact that the franchise has been setting the pace for the top seed.
It is as fun as Detroit baseball has been in quite some time. However, this isn't the case for every piece, with notable prospect Yosber Sanchez continuing to hit setbacks in his attempts to reach the next level.
Sanchez has posted a 5.09 ERA in 28 relief appearances (36 2/3 innings) with Double-A Erie this season, showing a consistent inability to make needed adjustments. The 24-year-old prospect should be nearing his peak, but has instead shown alarming regression. It has been bad enough to leave room to wonder if the Tigers prospect doesn't have as bright a future as expected.
Regardless, there is no denying how ugly this season has been, and it is only getting worse with the news that the pitcher is headed to the seven-day injured list, per Baseball America's Emily Waldon.

Tigers RHP Prospect Yosber Sanchez Lands on 7-Day IL
As the minor league season nears its end, this is officially going to be viewed as a year of failure for the Detroit prospect. One that has put everything into question, with Sanchez unable to continue pitching for Erie, at least for the next week
The exact details of the injury are yet to be reported, but there is no denying that the veteran minor leaguer is making the worst of impressions in the 2025 season. Sanchez is a rare failure in what has been a spectacular season.
There is reason to wonder if the Tigers could explore a trade this offseason and attempt to turn the page. Perhaps a change of scenery would return the bullpen arm to a needed baseline of productivity that was provided prior to this season. He had a 1.92 ERA and nine saves across 40 appearances (61 innings) split between Single-A Lakeland and High-A West Michigan.
No matter how it plays out, there is no denying that this season was a complete mess, and there is reason for the Tigers to feel Sanchez doesn't have a future with the organization. Even as excitement builds in the season's final month, it is a situation to keep a close eye on in the postseason.
