Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell were faced with a difficult decision this offseason, and it was one that they never thought they’d have to make.
After Terrion Arnold was charged with kidnapping and armed robbery following an incident where he had thousands of dollars worth of items stolen while staying in Florida this past February, the Detroit Lions decided to part ways with him. They waived him, and he went unclaimed, so he’s sitting in free agency while also awaiting an upcoming felony hearing.
The former first-round pick was supposed to be the future of the Lions’ secondary, but he may have ruined a promising career with some off-field issues. Lions fans are familiar with this scenario (Titus Young, anyone?).
Despite all of this, Arnold is out on bond and does not have to wear an ankle monitor, which means that he’s free to leave his home state of Florida, and he intends to play in the NFL again.
That may happen as soon as this season. Reports indicate that the Seahawks, Saints, and Texans are all interested in the former first-round cornerback.

It’s hard to believe that after everything that’s been rumored about his involvement with the robbery and kidnapping, he could very well land on his feet, but here we are.
In two seasons with the Lions after being drafted out of Alabama in 2024, Arnold had 91 total tackles, 18 pass breakups, and an interception in 22 starts. He had his flaws, but he was a promising young cornerback who the Lions’ front office believed could help Detroit get back to the promised land after flirting with a Super Bowl appearance in that memorable 2023 season.
It’ll be interesting to see which team does finally take a chance on him.
The Lions made the right decision with Terrion Arnold
As tough as it was and as much as most Lions fans believed that he was the future, holding onto Arnold during the court process and with the allegations getting more insane by the second just didn’t make sense.
Arnold may very well see charges dropped, or he could be proven innocent, but the Lions didn’t want to wait around for that to potentially happen. He put himself in a bad situation, and team rules were violated. Holmes and Campbell made the right decision for the future of the organization.
Does it hurt that he was let go after the 2026 NFL Draft? Yes, the Lions didn’t get to address the defensive backfield much in the draft, and that would’ve been different if this all came out sooner.
The old Lions may have decided to keep Arnold out of desperation, but these aren’t the same old Lions.
