June is officially in its final days as the Detroit Tigers continue to play like one of the best teams in baseball. The Tigers are currently tied with the Los Angeles Dodgers for an MLB-leading 51-31 record as they enter the campaign's second half, leaving time to tell if A.J. Hinch's club has what it takes to reach the 100-win mark for the first time in 41 years.
With July right around the corner, it wouldn't be surprising to learn if the Tigers are getting ready to shake up their roster. Using the trade market is one way Detroit can find reinforcements; however, there are also several in-house options capable of making an impact as the season continues.
Although some potential call-ups are obvious, one under-the-radar option could join the Tigers sooner rather than later.
Tigers Must Call-Up IF Hao-Yu Lee From Triple-A Toledo
Hao-Yu Lee is someone who could help the Tigers as the 2025 season progresses. The versatile 22-year-old infielder was acquired in the trade that sent former starting pitcher Michael Lorenzen to the Philadelphia Phillies in August 2023, and it might be time to see what the Taiwan-born prospect can accomplish in the Majors.
After spending his early career in lower minor-league levels, Lee opened the campaign on the Triple-A Toledo roster and hasn't looked out of place. Detroit's No. 6 prospect is slashing .255/.361/.410 with six home runs, 27 RBIs, and 36 in 63 games (239 at-bats). He also has 10 stolen bases, proving that he can make an impact outside of his bat.
Lee's performance has fluctuated at times this season; however, he has been putting things back together as of late. He has a solid .952 OPS in his last seven games (28 ABs) with the Mud Hens, picking up seven walks and two homers during that stretch. While that is a small sample size, it's the type of rejuvenated performance that could foster a call-up if his play doesn't fall off.
Lee also has experience playing all infield positions except first base and catcher, giving the Tigers another reason to promote him. Versatility is key down the stretch, especially as injuries arise, and having the infield prospect in the mix could add a new layer to Hinch's lineup planning.
If he can squeeze out a few more strong performances in the coming days, it might not be long before Lee makes his way to the Motor City.
