If there is one remaining position the Detroit Lions should consider adding to it is bringing in more pass-rushing talent. In today's league, having a wealth of options is close to a necessity for a winning team. If you don't have the luxury of being carried by a top-five quarterback, building out a complete pass-rushing unit has to be a consistent focus. As great as Jared Goff has been, there isn't any question that the veteran is a tier below Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, and the rest of the league's elite.
With this in mind, the Lions need to continue to be proactive when it comes to adding depth. One such option could be former Patriot and Falcon pass rusher Matthew Judon. The veteran is coming off an underwhelming 2024 campaign and is looking for a chance to sign a prove-it deal that gives the veteran one last shot at cashing in during free agency. This is an opportunity the Lions are poised to give, looking at the team's current depth chart.
Detroit Can Offer Veteran Matthew Judon the Chance to Rebuild His Value on a True Contender
The Lions would be wise to afford the team the ability to take some pressure off Aiden Hutchinson as the pass rusher works his way back from 2024's devastating injury. Signing Judon helps give the franchise this ability and adds a veteran who has a high ceiling in the process. We are only two years removed from Judon being an elite pass-rushing threat in New England.
Considering the veteran's age and fewer snaps last season, it is completely possible that a move to Detroit turns back the clock. Even if it doesn't fully turn Judon into what he once was, there is a great chance the veteran can pile up 6-7 sacks in a rotational role for the Lions. It is the type of savvy moves fans are growing accustomed to the franchise making.
With a loaded Eagles team still lurking and the young Commanders having full confidence, the Lions must do everything in their power to improve. Getting healthier is a great first step; however, in an increasingly competitive NFC, it isn't enough. Judon is a perfect fit and would give a talented defense an even higher ceiling as the team continues its quest for the first Super Bowl in franchise history.
