The Detroit Tigers have little reason not to approach this year's trade deadline with a sense of urgency. While the franchise remains in complete control of its current playoff positioning it would be wise to attempt to bolster the lineup and back of the bullpen. Detroit is in a position not just to make the 2025 postseason but to have a real chance at making a deep run. The American Leauge is up for grabs with injuries appearing to level the field.

It is hard to point to a clear favorite and that will continue to be the case if the Tigers can make meaningful trade deadline additions.

With this in mind, Detroit's primary target should be current Boston Red Sox infielder Alex Bregman. The veteran has been consistently productive offensively and has been a clear defensive upgrade for Boston. This has helped an underwhelming roster hover around .500 on the fringes of wildcard contention. Still, there is reason to believe the Red Sox will consider selling after already parting ways with franchise star Rafael Devers. The trade signaled a lack of belief in the team's 2025 season and leaves the door open for the perfect offensive addition for the Tigers.

Alex Bregman Remains the Perfect Tigers' Target

Bregman is currently hitting .299 and has been one of the few reliable options in Boston's lineup. It is the exact infield presence Detroit is missing and would help give belief the team is capable of a deep postseason run. The infielder has experience being a part of two World Series champions. This provides the perfect mix of a veteran presence as well as an offensive boost. The one downside to the move is the potential cost for one of the league's more established hitters who is expected to be on the move.

For the Tigers to have a chance at a deep postseason run the team is going to need to be willing to spend what it takes to improve. This means chasing after Bregman and an arm to bolster the bullpen. If Detroit is able to do this, there is every reason to believe the team will further establish itself as a World Series contender.
