The NBA offseason is flying by with Summer League firmly in the rearview mirror. The Detroit Pistons are turning their attention to the looming 2025-26 regular season, and it remains to be seen if the franchise's offseason additions — from Caris LeVert to Duncan Robinson — will be enough to foster a deep play run.
With over two months to go before the meaningful action begins, there's still a ton of time for the Pistons to further upgrade their roster. Given the lack of standout free-agent options at this stage of the offseason, the trade market is the Pistons' best path to finding help, and any potential move would likely involve one guard whose future is uncertain at best.
Pistons G Marcus Sasser Will Remain on Trade Block This Offseason
Marcus Sasser has been with the Pistons for over two seasons now, arriving in the Motor City via the Memphis Grizzlies after he was drafted 25th overall in 2023. The former ACC Player of the Year and Jerry West Award winner entered the league with high expectations and, unfortunately, he's since failed to meet them.
Between his first two campaigns, Sasser has given Pistons fans little to be excited about. The ex-Houston Cougar has only made 12 starts in 128 career appearances, resulting in his averaging only 7.5 points, 2.9 assists, and 1.5 rebounds while shooting 44.1% from the floor and 37.8% from deep. He was also scratched for Detroit's entire first-round playoff series with the New York Knicks, shedding more light on his status with the team.
Sasser's lack of playmaking upside is the biggest reason why he's on the trade block. Although he's a solid shooter, the Pistons aren't exactly lacking in that regard, especially after adding LeVert and Robinson. Someone aside from Cade Cunningham needs to feed Detroit's shooters the ball, which could lead to Sasser being shipped away in favor of a more proven facilitator.
Considering how he's still on a rookie contract and hasn't turned 25 years old yet, the Pistons can likely find a trade partner that still believes in his hypothetical upside. If an opportunity to upgrade the backcourt presents itself, general manager Trajan Langdon must pull the trigger.
With that in mind, Pistons fans will want to pay close attention to Sasser's status as the NBA offseason continues.
