The Detroit Red Wings head outdoors to play the Colorado Avalanche at Coors Field. The Red Wings look to get a split in the season series with the Avs.

The Detroit Red Wings face their old rival, the Colorado Avalanche tonight outdoors at Coors Field. The Red Wings are coming into today’s game off a shootout victory against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday night.

The Avalanche look like they’ve turned the corner this month. After opening February up with four straight losses the Avs have rebounded and have won five out of seven. This hot streak has vaulted Colorado into the last Wild Card spot in the Western Conference.

Unfortunately, the lack of goals is becoming an issue again as the Red Wings have scored three goals in three games. Thankfully all the overtime games the Red Wings have played, have given them some crucial points in the playoff race.

Bob Duff wrote a piece today saying the ice condition are a concern for the Red Wings. The weather has made the ice very soft as Darren Helm said. How much of a factor is that going to be tonight?

Here is all the important information for tonight’s game:

. 103. . 72. Final

Detroit Red Wings (30-20-11) at Colorado Avalanche (32-27-4)

The Detroit Red Wings are six points behind the Florida Panthers for the division lead so a win tonight is crucial. For the Red Wings to win tonight they probably will have to rely on Petr Mrazek again.

The Red Wings are looking to split the series with the Avalanche and a lot of it will depend on Petr Mrazek. If Mrazek can hold the Avalanche to two or fewer goals, I think the Red Wings will win. If Mrazek gives up three or more goals I think the Red Wings lose.
