The Detroit Red Wings picked up their first win on Monday night against the Ottawa Senators. They look to get another victory tonight against the Rangers.

The Detroit Red Wings for the first time this season played well for a full 60 minutes. In front of a raucous crowd at the final home opener at Joe Louis Arena, the Red Wings scored early, led 3-0 after the first and won 5-1.

The number one star of the game by far was Red Wing Defensemen Mike Green. He picked up his first career hat-trick and coach Jeff Blashill thinks Mike Green is more confident this season.

That would be huge for the Red Wings if Mike Green has a turnaround season. Even though this season is only three games old, Darren Helm has been a really good surprise. Helm scored the other two goals for the Red Wings on Monday and has three goals so far this season.

Thomas Vanek picked up three assists against Ottawa and he leads the Red Wings in points with five. All in all the Red Wings played a very good game. The defense still gave up a couple odd-man rushes but Petr Mrazek stood tall.

Now the Red Wings head to New York to face the Rangers. The Rangers are currently undefeated at Madison Square Garden whereas Detroit is winless on the road so far on the young season. Something has to give.

Will the Red Wings win their first road game? If they get an effort like they did on Monday, I think they can. As of this writing no starter has been announced but I think it’s going to be Mrazek again with Jimmy Howard getting the start on Friday.
