Last week was a great week at Detroit Jock City! We have some new writers who are really starting tin find their groove. Last week we covered everything from Spartans Football to the Pistons head coaching hire. We projected the Lions starting line-up and profiled Mixed Martial Arts in Michigan. If it happened in Detroit Sports last week we had it on DJC.
So in case you missed it here are the links to the best of DJC for last week June 10th to June 16th 2013.
Pistons: Greg Monroe – Budding Star by Corey Young
"Greg Monroe has many strengths and very few weaknesses so at this point we are just fine tuning because everyone strives for something and no one is perfect. It’s a real pleasure to watch Monroe play, Monroe can score with a plethora of moves in the low post and prior to Jose Calderon joining the roster mid-season he was second on the team in assist showing he is a willing passer and understand the game of basketball."
Lions: Projecting the 2013 Depth Chart by Bradley LaBrie
"Now, projecting a depth chart this early in the offseason is difficult. First of all, veterans will be added at some point before training camp begins. The Lions could potentially add depth at defensive end, offensive tackle or wide receiver — among other positions. However, I will not be predicting any free agent signings that will take place before training camp. Also, keep in mind this is a depth chart projection of a 53-man roster — meaning some of the young players on the roster will be left off."
Lions: 5 Reasons D-Line Will Live Up To Expectations by Josh Albee
"After using 3 1st round draft picks on defensive lineman in the last 4 years, it is clear that defensive-minded Jim Schwartz and the Detroit Lions organization are looking to build around a dominant pass rush. The scheme used by Gunther Cunningham relies on heavy pressure up front and gap reaction from the linebackers. As the defensive line goes, so goes the entire defensive."
Spartans: Football Preview-Running Backs by Andrew Erdman
"Ever since I can remember, the Michigan State Spartans have had a reliable running back heading into the season. This upcoming season is different; the Spartans don’t have that. Instead the Spartans have a group of young and inexperienced running backs. Usually the running back position is widely considered to be a position of strength dating back to Duckett, Caulcirck, Ringer, Baker, and Bell, but heading into the 2013 season the running back position is considered a position of weakness and concern, to me anyway."
MMA: Detroit Grit Lives At Courageous by Tony Fischer
"In the early 70′s Detroit’s Kronk gym was born in the basement of the Kronk recreation center. In the two decades that followed Kronk produced many of boxing great champions of the 70′s and 80′s. Kronk was about the team and about Detroit. It was about Detroiters helping each other be better boxers, better men."
