The game marks the first time the Lions will face former head coach, Jim Schwartz who is now the defensive coordinator of the Bills. It is also a preview of sorts for the Detroit Lions vs. Buffalo Bills game during the regular season, on Sunday, October 5 at 1:00 pm/ET in Detroit.
As with most preseason finales, don’t expect to see star players from either team to play much, if at all. For Lions fans, that means minimal play from Calvin Johnson, Ndamukong Suh and Matthew Stafford. Bills fans shouldn’t expect to see much of C.J. Spiller, Mario Williams and Sammy Watkins.
I expect to see mostly bland offensive and defensive scheme from both teams, as neither the Lions of Bills will want to give anything away prior to the start of the regular season, or before they face each other on week five.
The Lions emphasis will likely be to establish the running game against a solid Buffalo front seven. Look for heavy doses of Mikel Leshoure, George Winn, and Theo Riddick as the Lions take one last opportunity of in-game action to evaluate which running backs will make the team behind Reggie Bush and Joique Bell.

The Bills will likely continue to work on their no-huddle attack and try to exploit Detroit’s questionable secondary.
It’s also likely that many will tune in to this game to see if Schwartz can exact some revenge against his former team. However this game is truly about evaluating talent and making lasting impressions if your one of the players on the roster bubble.
