Detroit Lions Injury Report for Week 5 Match-Up vs. Buffalo Bills

One thing comes to mind at first glance of the Detroit Lions Injury report for week 5; there is lightning but no thunder. That’s because the power-portion of the Detroit run game, Joique Bell, has been ruled out for Sunday’s match-up against the Buffalo Bills.

Theo Riddick, who is third on the Detroit Lions depth chart at the running back position has been ruled out as well.

Bell suffered a concussion during last Sunday’s win over the New York Jets. He was cleared for physical activity during the week, but not contact. Riddick is reportedly dealing with tightness in his hamstring and had hopes of playing this week.

With both Bell and Riddick sidelined this week, expect to see lots of Reggie Bush and newly promoted George Winn. Winn was signed off the Detroit Lions practice squad this week in anticipation of Bell’s absence.

Below is the Detroit Lions’ final injury report for Week 5:

RB Joique Bell (concussion) – Out
RB Theo Riddick (hamstring) – Out
WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) – Questionable
WR Golden Tate (hamstring) – Probable
TE Joseph Fauria (ankle) – Out
OT LaAdrian Waddle (calf) – Probable
DE Devin Taylor (knee) – Probable
DT Nick Fairley (knee) – Probable
LB Travis Lewis (quadricep) – Out
CB Cassius Vaughn (ankle) – Doubtful
S Don Carey (hamstring) – Probable

The status on the Detroit Lions No. 1 and No. 2 wide receivers is better than the running backs — both Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate are expected to play on Sunday.

Johnson is still battling the ankle injury that limited him vs. the Jets. Tate was listed on the Lions injury report following Thursay’s practice, however both he and Megatron were full participants in Friday’s practice.

More from Detroit Lions

Some more good news to come out of the Detroit Lions injury report is the very welcomed return of right tackle, LaAdrian Waddle. Waddle’s presence will be of great value to quarterback Matthew Stafford, as fill-in lineman Garrett Reynolds struggled in Waddle’s absence.

Tight End Joseph Fauria and linebacker Travis Lewis both remain out for the second consecutive week. Cornerback Cassius Vaughn is considered doubtful.
