Detroit Lions starting right guard, Larry Warford will be out of action for Sunday’s match-up against the Arizona Cardinals. Warford injured his knee in the opening series of the Lions win over the Miami Dolphins last Sunday. He was scheduled to undergo an MRI on Monday.

Via Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press:

"“He’s going to be a little bit,” Lions coach Jim Caldwell said at his news conference today. “They continue to look at him today and kind of see where we are, but hopefully, young guys heal fast. So we’ll see.”"

Taking his place in Detroit’s starting line up will be third round draft pick, and up and coming rookie, Travis Swanson. Swanson played a career-high 59 snaps last week and was flagged for one holding penalty, but played well overall.

The Lions also plan on re-signing former Central Michigan offensive lineman, Darren Keyton to the practice squad pending a physical on Monday. They may also promote Rodney Austin to the active roster with just six healthy lineman currently present.

Backup right tackle Garret Reynolds can also play both guard and tackle.

Swanson will face a solid test during his first start in Arizona as the Cardinals tend to get after the quarterback on a regular basis.

"“Obviously, any time we have any sort of injury at any position and a guy has a bevy of experience, and if he’s replaced by a guy that doesn’t have as much experience, you obviously lose that part of it,” Caldwell said. “But he’s been playing extremely well, and if he’s not able to play this week, then we’ll get somebody ready to go. The young guy stepped in and played well. Travis played great, so we’ll make the necessary adjustments.”"

A lot of people feel that Swanson has real potential to be successful as a pro and he will now get his chance to prove himself a bit earlier that some initially expected.
