Detroit Lions News: TJ Jones Will Practice For First Time Wednesday

Detroit Lions rookie wide receiver, TJ Jones will practice for the first time this season on Wednesday. Jones was the Lions sixth round selection in the 2014 NFL Draft, but hasn’t suited up with team since last spring when he aggravated his college shoulder injury.

He underwent surgery last June and has spent the last 11 weeks on the physically unable to perform list.

The Detroit Lions now have three weeks to decide if they want to active Jones from the PUP list, or keep him out of action for the remainder of the season.

Jones practiced exclusively as an outside receiver this spring before aggravating his shoulder injury and general consensus is that Jones will not play for the Detroit Lions in 2014, (barring injury of course).

The Lions currently have Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate as their No. 1 and No. 2 wide receivers. Jeremy Ross is a special teams contributor and Corey Fuller has stepped up in his sophomore year. Ryan Broyles is the fifth wideout.

There is of course, the possibility that head coach Jim Caldwell may decide to part ways with Broyles in favor of Jones.

After a strong showing during the Lions preseason, many thought that Broyles may have not only earned a roster spot, but he may have won the No. 3 receiver job. That ended up not being the case, and Broyles has seen very limited action in the regular season.

Following the teams victory in Minnesota, Broyles took to twitter to voice his displeasure.

Whether it was the right or wrong way to address the situation, it’s still hard to blame the FBS all-time leader in receptions.
