Detroit gets:

  • Isaiah Thomas
  • Gerald Green

Phoenix gets:

  • Greg Monroe
  • Kyle Singler
  • Cartier Martin

I know I said three players, but this deal has too much blockbuster potential in that it could greatly benefit both sides of this deal, that I couldn’t resist including both players names on the heading.

For one, the Suns need a power forward that can rebound and score, and Greg Monroe fits that role perfectly with his 15.4 PPG and 10.4 RPG this season.  Also with Monroe’s desire to part ways with the Pistons, this gives Detroit and opportunity to rebuild without losing much talent on the floor.

This trade will also unload the crowded backcourt of the Suns that hosts talented point guards such as Goran Dragic and Eric Bledsoe.  Trading Thomas will also help their desire to try and sign Dragic to a long term extension or trade Dragic for top value that the Pistons simply don’t and shouldn’t offer.

  • On the Pistons side, the additions of Gerald Green and Isaiah Thomas would drastically bolster their chances of claiming a playoff spot, and fill two vacancies that the Pistons currently have:  a high level point guard and somebody who can start at the small forward.

Thought I don’t like the idea of taking on the length of Thomas’s contract since Brandon Jennings will be returning next season, they could potentially use Thomas as trading bait during the offseason to fill holes such as a true starting power forward nicely.

As for Green, he would most likely be a one year rental, but would be able to put up solid numbers for the rest of the season, as he’s averaging 12.9 PPG, 2.9 RPG and 0.7 SPG off the bench for the Suns.

Overall, this trade would drastically improve both teams, as it would give the Suns the big man they’ve been searching for, and give the Pistons a point guard replacement for Jennings for the rest of the season and a shooting guard/small forward that has starter level talent.
