Nike deal lucrative for U-M
With the help of Harbaugh’s reputation, Hackett just completed a deal with Nike which awarded Michigan with the most lucrative apparel contract in the nation, perhaps approaching $9 million annually.
When it comes to recruiting, Harbaugh already passed the test. During this past June, Harbaugh pulled in 14 commits, moving the Wolverines to eighth in 247sports’ Class of 2016 team ratings.
Part of his success came from holding satellite camps in states known to produce outstanding football players. It’s common knowledge that Florida, Alabama, Texas and California are talent-rich.
Harbaugh took some abuse from fellow coaches in the ACC and SEC where coaches can’t hold camps outside of 50 miles from their campuses.
“In my America, you’re allowed to cross state borders,” Harbaugh told USA Today. “That’s the America I know.”
Already a popular figure on the recruiting trail, adding a Swoosh next to the Block M on Jim Harbuagh’s shirt and hat will only add to the appeal with recruits.
