Is Michigan ready for another Ten Year War?
“I think Jim Harbaugh will bring something to the Ohio State-Michigan storied rivalry,” Tressel said (via the Akron Beacon Journal). “He’s been successful wherever he’s been. He’s extremely hardworking. He has great pride in his alma mater.
“Personally, I think they’re a ways away from being at the level where there’s going to be a Ten Year War. I think they’ve got some work to do to get to that. But if anyone can do it, Jim Harbaugh can. He’ll do a great job.”
The Ten Year war? Michigan fans would love to see a repeat of the series that lauded the rivalry as the best in college sports, if not all of American sport. From 1969-78, coaches Bo (Schembechler) and Woody (Hayes) battled for Big Ten and National Championships. Bo (who played and coached for Woody) won five times, while losing four. The teams battled to a 10-10 tie in 1973.
Ohio State visits Ann Arbor Nov. 28, riding a three-game winning streak over the Wolverines and winners of nine of the last ten games (Ohio State vacated the 2010 contest due to NCAA probation).
