Detroit Tigers Rumors: Yoenis Cespedes Wants to be a Met for “Long, Long Time”
By Matt Snyder
Many Detroit Tigers fans were elated when Yoenis Cespedes reportedly expressed his desire to return to Detroit next season, but he’s apparently saying the same things about New York now that he’s a member of the Mets.
It’s hard to tell if Cespedes is being genuine now, if he was being genuine in Detroit, both, or neither.

Perhaps he was pandering to the fans to gain their support. Perhaps he was trying to gain the support of his teammates and help build a positive culture. Perhaps was trying to gain favor of the ownership in hopes of securing a top-dollar free agency bid.
Perhaps he really did feel comfortable and think — in those moments — that his deepest desire was to remain with each team.
I think the only thing we know for sure is that the Tigers fans who viewed his return to Detroit as a slam dunk stand a good chance of being disappointed this offseason. Free agents in baseball, as most employees of any field or discipline, usually seek to work for which ever organization deems them worth of the largest compensation package.
Sure, we’ll sacrifice a little bit in order to stay in a particular city, to be near friends or family, or to remain in a comfortable work environment, but few of us would shy away from big money if it was set in front of us.
Yoenis Cespedes might return to the Detroit Tigers next season, but it will only be if they’re the high bidder for his services. That was always going to be the determining factor.
