Defensive End
The loss of George Johnson in free agency has caused some consternation for some. Losing him may be overblown but how the Lions replace his snaps isn’t yet clear.
It stands to reason that part of the reason Johnson wasn’t tendered a restricted free agent deal that would have at least allowed the Lions to receive compensation for his departure had to do with their comfort level with the players behind Johnson on the depth chart. That includes some players Lions fans haven’t seen much of, like Larry Webster.
At this time last year George Johnson was, with all due respect, mostly “just a guy” on the Lions roster but he became and important part of their rotation. The Lions have shown the ability to identify and develop defensive line talent – we just have to see who the next man up will be.
