College Football Top 25 Week 1: Ohio State Buckeyes Claim Top Ranking
By Matt Snyder
Few surprises can be found near the top of Detroit Jock City’s week one college football poll for 2015 as the defending champion Ohio State Buckeyes came out as the unanimous top-ranked team. Alabama actually garnered the most second place votes, but they fall to number three behind TCU, who was more consistently ranked in the top-three.
If the College Football Playoff matchups were set based on these preseason votes, we could see a potential Michigan State vs. Ohio State national semifinal game. That would be sure to cause a controversy as both Ohio State and Michigan State play in the Big Ten East, meaning one (MSU in this case) would have missed qualifying for their conference championship game.
The top teams from power conferences not appearing in the top-four (potential College Football Playoff) spots are:
PAC-12: #7 Oregon
ACC: #9 Clemson
The SEC leads all conferences with eight teams (57% of the conference) being placed among the Top 25. The Pac-12 was next with six teams, followed by the ACC, Big Ten, and Big 12 with three teams each. One independent and one Mountain West team were also ranked.
There is one ranked vs. ranked matchup right away in week one. #21 Wisconsin takes on #3 Alabama in Arlington, Texas on Thursday night at 8 p.m. on ABC.
The Detroit Jock City College Football Top 25 Poll is voted on by a group of six writers: Jake Clements, Joel Greer, Matt Hellens, Alex Kolodziej, Matt Snyder, and Zac Snyder.
