RUNNING BACK

Ameer Abdullah is generating most of the buzz coming out of Lions camp this season as a huge fantasy sleeper. His skill set and ability are a perfect fit for what the Lions want to do and this has the hype machine in overdrive. Unfortunately from a fantasy perspective this looks like a full blown time share situation.

Joique Bell had off-season knee and Achilles surgeries but is reportedly progressing well. He will receive most of the early down work and most likely be used near the goal line. Throw in Theo Riddick as a change of pace back and you can see where the fantasy prospects here get a little dicey.

I see Abdullah filling the role that was held by Reggie Bush the past couple of seasons. Bush averaged 10.5 touches per game last season and I believe Abdullah will see about the same this year. It is gonna be tough to be a consistent fantasy performer week in and week out seeing 10-12 touches per game.

He is certainly a guy that you will want to have on your radar going into the draft, but don’t count on him being an every week fantasy starter. This situation seems best fit to be ignored in your draft. Don’t be the guy that takes Abdullah in the 4th round as he won’t return enough value to justify that.
