During this famed rivalry which dates back to 1897, Michigan has earned 11 national titles to OSU’s eight.
The Wolverines have acquired 42 Big Ten titles to OSU’s 35, but OSU has seven Heisman trophy winners to Michigan’s three and 45 bowl appearances to Michigan’s 43.
‘The Game’ as many affectionately call it, now has two of the most decorated coaches in the modern game.
Urban Meyer, now at Ohio State, has three national titles to his credit—two at Florida and one at Ohio State.
Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh was highly successful at Stanford, and even more successful in the NFL, taking his San Francisco 49ers to the Super Bowl.
Michigan defeated a probation-troubled OSU team 40-34 in 2011, while losing a heart breaker 42-41 last season. This year’s game will reach a fever pitch long before the opening kickoff as the rivalry is now about Jim and Urban, similar to 1969 when Michigan’s Bo Schembechler squad upset Woody Hayes and the Buckeyes.
The same feeling is in the air.
Prediction: Michigan 24, OSU 12.
