New coach, a 5-7 record in 2014 and a quarterback battle.

Sounds a lot like Jim Harbaugh and Michigan, but we’re actually speaking of Gary Anderson and the Oregon State Beavers.

Anderson surprising left his head job at Wisconsin after just two seasons to take the identical job at Oregon State.

Anderson plans on running a spread offense with “pace,” certainly unlike the close-to-the-vest Wisconsin Badgers.

The new coach knows the quarterback starter but has been close-lipped about it.

Both true freshman Seth Collins and redshirt freshman Marcus McMaryion will play in the Weber State opener. By the time the Beavers head to Ann Arbor Sept. 12, the first-stringer might be known.

Oregon State has never been a powerhouse, and has an all-time record against the Big Ten of 17-37-1.

The Beavers, who lost the 1965 Rose Bowl to Michigan 34-7, won’t even make this year’s game close.

Prediction: Michigan 31, Oregon State 13.
