College Football Top 25 Week 2: Notre Dame Enters Top Ten

The first week of college football results prompted some shuffling inside the top ten ranking positions of the Detroit Jock City Top 25 poll — TCU fell to third thanks to a lackluster win at Minnesota and Baylor and Michigan State swapped positions at four and five — but only one new team entered the top ten from the outside. Notre Dame used a thrashing of Texas to jump from number 14 to number nine.

The Ohio State Buckeyes actually lost their unanimity at the top — one voter was particularly impressed with Alabama‘s win over the formerly ranked Wisconsin — but they retained a comfortable lead in the voting overall.

The 11 through 25 positions saw significantly more movement, with Texas A&M, Mississippi State, and Utah joining the ranks from the outside. Arizona State, Stanford, and Wisconsin saw themselves fall out of the rankings entirely.

The opening weeks see many games with mismatched opponents, so the rankings will remain somewhat fluid until the number of games between power conference teams increases to a significant level.
