Detroit Lions vs. Arizona Cardinals: DJC Staff Predictions
By Zac Snyder
While the other 31 teams in the NFL already have their first win, the Detroit Lions are sitting at 0-4 with another tough opponent on deck. The Arizona Cardinals come to Ford Field with no intentions of giving the Lions their first win of the season, but is this the week?
Here is what the Detroit Jock City staff sees for the game ahead.
Braden Shackelford (0-4) – I think the Lions come out on Sunday looking for blood after the disappointing loss in Seattle on a botched call. It’s about time things start breaking the Lions way. Lions win a close one, 21-20.
Mike Rizzo (2-2) – The Detroit Lions are the last winless team in the NFL. Although, they showed some promise late in the game against Seattle I just don’t like what I’ve seen from them offensively. The Arizona Cardinals are coming off a loss as well but I think the Cards offense rebounds and hands the Lions another loss.
Arizona 24, Detroit 14

Erik Schlitt (2-2) – Most Detroit Lions fans have had a hard time letting go of last week’s emotional loss. The Detroit Lions coaches and players have said they’re moving past it and are focused on the Arizona Cardinals. If the Lions have any hope of getting their 1st win of the season, they better be. Arizona brings a healthy and confident team to Detroit. Carson Palmer and Larry Fitzgerald have turned back time and are having a solid beginning to their year. The Lions have injuries all over their roster and still look as predictable as ever on offense. Their defense has kept them in the last two games a likely return of DeAndre Levy should help them overcome the loss of Tyrunn Walker. The keys to a Lions victory will be preventing Arizona from executing big plays on offense and the Lions offense will need to find balance and unpredictability. Arizona is favored to win but I think the Lions are ready to prove people wrong. Bold Prediction: A DeAndre Levy pick 6 leads the Lions to a win. Lions 24, Cardinals 23
Aaron Huizenga (3-1) – Carson Palmer looks rejuvenated and has turned the Cardinal offense into a high-flying attack. The Cardinals are averaging over 400 total yards a game and will put the Lions defense to the test. The Lions will bring some confidence into this matchup as they played well enough to win in Seattle. Matthew Stafford needs to continue to find Calvin Johnson and the Lions needs to get Ameer Adbullah going on the ground. Unfortunately, I don’t see them being able to slow down the Cardinal attack dropping another close one at home. Arizona Cardinals 24, Detroit Lions 17
Zac Snyder (3-1) – Despite being 0-4, these aren’t the “woe is me” sorry Detroit Lions of the past. The last two games have provided some signs of life, particularly on defense and those flashes on offense when Matthew Stafford is allowed to work with tempo. I have a tremendous amount of respect for the Cardinals and I don’t think they represent an easing of the schedule difficulty, but I look for the Lions to finally breakthrough this week. Lions 23, Cardinals 20
Matt Snyder (3-1) – The potential return of DeAndre Levy would boost the defense, but it’s been the (lack of) offense that’s caused most of the Lions’ problems. They have the weapons, but can they put together a game plan to utilize them? Let’s hope so. Unfortunately, until they show they can, it’s difficult to pick them to win. Cardinals 20, Lions 17
Nate VanNorwick (4-0) – No pick
