Detroit Lions vs. Philadelphia Eagles: DJC Staff Predictions
By Zac Snyder
The Detroit Lions host the Philadelphia Eagles for this year’s Thanksgiving Day Classic in Detroit. Here is what the Detroit Jock City staff sees ahead.
Thanksgiving Day is the point in the Detroit Lions season in which it is either time to start looking at playoff scenarios or to start looking ahead to the draft. At 3-7, the smart move would be to start looking at draft position and potential prospects but the Lions are starting to play their best football of the season.
That’s not saying much given how the first eight games went but the Lions do carry the momentum of a two game winning streak into their Thanksgiving Day game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Here is what the Detroit Jock City staff sees for the game ahead.
Aaron Huizenga (6-4) – The Lions amazingly have put together a two game winning streak and will host a struggling Eagles team. In years past, the Lions have played fairly well on Thanksgiving day in front of their home crowd and I think their momentum will push the to another victory. Chip Kelly’s offense has never really got on track and despite the Lions struggles on defense most of the year, I don’t think this is the week they get hot. I like the Lions to make it three straight this week. Lions 28, Eagles 21

Zac Snyder (6-4) – Jokes about the Lions losing being a Thanksgiving Day tradition are over with the team now on a two game winning Turkey Day winning streak after losing the previous nine. That matches the two game winning streak the Lions have after beating the Packers and Raider in the last two weeks. I expect the streaks to extend to three as the Lions and Eagles now look like teams heading in the opposite direction. With the Lions’ defense looking like last year’s dominating version, not even the exotic nature of the Eagles offense will be enough to put them over the top. Lions 24, Eagles 16
Matt Snyder (5-5) – The Eagles are a mess right now. They lost 45-17 last week to the Buccaneers without injured quarterback Sam Bradford. Unfortunately for the Lions, backup quarterback Mark Sanchez seems like exactly the type of player who would come in and torch them while looking like a 10-year All-Pro. Lions lose a close one 23-20.
Mike Rizzo (4-6) – The Detroit Lions come into this game having won two games in a row and also winning on thanksgiving for two years in a row. I believe it will be three straight wins. The Eagles are in shambles, the players hate Chip Kelly, Sam Bradford may not play. The Lions win this relatively easy. Lions 35, Eagles 20

Erik Schlitt (4-6) – The Philadelphia Eagles are struggling right now. Injuries and turnovers have impacted their offense the last two games, both of which have resulted in bad losses. The Lions defense is playing its best football of the year right now. Their ability to keep points off the board has been the key to the Lions last two victories. The Lions offense has been average but they’re putting enough points on the board when it counts. Playing at home, on Thanksgiving, and with a recently stout defense, the Lions will be able to keep their win streak going. Lions 21, Eagles 14.
Braden Shackelford (3-7) – The Lions are riding a two game winning streak–their first consecutive wins of the season. The Eagles on the other hand just gave up a bad lose where their defense surrendered the most rushing yards in a game since the 1970’s. Momentum seems to be in the Lions’ favor this week. Lions win, 24-18.
