Detroit Lions news takes a look at what the team did on day three of free agency.

The Detroit Lions moved quickly at the start of free agency to sign wide receiver Marvin Jones away from the Cincinnati Bengals. But aside from adding some defensive depth from the outside, a lot of the Lions’ action in free agency has been to re-up with some of their own.

That was the big theme of day three of free agency. It started the evening before with news that Tahir Whitehead would return to the team on a two year deal, news that the team confirmed yesterday.

Dan Orlovsky has re-signed to add veteran quarterback depth behind Matthew Stafford. It’s not a move to get excited about but it’s not one to get worked up over either – as long as the Lions follow up by adding a developmental quarterback in the draft.

The reign of Don Muhlbach as the team’s long snapper continues as he also has re-upped with the team. He has been as dependable as they come with the best thing that can be said is that he is an afterthought on gameday. Both Orlovsky and Muhlbach are coming off expiring minimum contracts and are expected to be returning on similar deals.

Cornerback Crezdon Butler will also return for the chance to compete for a roster spot at cornerback during training camp.
