The Detroit Red Wings face a must-win game tonight against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Red Wings are currently on the outside of the playoff race.

The Detroit Red Wings for the first time in awhile are in major trouble. After losing to the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night and the Flyers beating the Chicago Blackhawks last night, the Red Wings are now one point behind the Flyers for the last playoff spot.

Anthony Mantha made his debut for the Red Wings against the Flyers and he played pretty well. Coach Blashill thought Mantha played really well, but the Red Wings did not play well to start the game. They were outshot 23-3 in the first period and down 2-0.

Andreas Athanasiou got the Red Wings on the board early in the second but the Red Wings couldn’t cut the deficit to less than a goal. The Flyers ended up winning 4-3 and now lead the Red Wings by one point for the last playoff spot in the East.

Tonight is a must-win game. The Red Wings lost a brutal game to the Blue Jackets last week so a measure of revenge against the Blue Jackets would be nice.

The Blue Jackets have been off since their embarrassing performance against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday. So the Blue Jackets also have some frustration to get rid of tonight.

As of this writing the starting goalie for the Red Wings hasn’t been announced yet and it’s really anybody’s guess. Petr Mrazek has started the last few games and hasn’t played badly but is it time to give Jimmy Howard another shot?
